"STILL I RISE! by Maya Angelou

STILL I RISE
This poem surprised me as it made me think deeply and thoroughly about never giving up, no matter the challenges! As you read it, it evokes in you confidence, courage, excitement, happiness, honor, hope and optimism. Her verse is truly empowering. a beautiful way to tell of the hardships of slavery, and racism. I was born in a small village where there were no people from other races, however, my parents used to be migrants in France and they got used to meeting people from different parts of the world, which meant we learnt a lot from their moving at a time when in Catalonia we were still under the yoke of the dictator. I went to a just one race primary school and then to a seconday and high school where all of my friends were white and local. When I looked at my friends I never thought their skin colour had anything to do with how we should properly treat people with love and respect. This poem makes me want to say shame on racist bigotry and racist violence. We still have a way to go but everything is possible if we try hard on it. This poem is an eye opener because we still have to rise to prove ourselves as human beings.
